Senior Sleep Studies Technician, directly reporting to the Sleep Lab Manager, performs sleep diagnostics for analysis by physicians for sleep disorders. The Polysomnograp! hic Technologist that is the Sleep Studies Technician functions independently to safely operate the equipment and record sleep/wake physiology. The non-invasive monitoring equipment monitors brain, breathing and blood oxygen physiology. Most sleep studies are done overnight with the patient population rating from pediatric to geriatric.
The Sleep Studies Technologists are required to obtain the highest quality study acquisition and to deliver therapeutic and supportive care in a cost efficient and timely manner following physician orders and department policies and protocols. At all times Sleep Study Technologists are required to act in a professional and courteous manner in interacting with patients, patient families, visitors, physicians, other members of the hospital staff and Comfort Suite personnel.
All shifts are responsible for communication with home care providers as indicated. Most polysomnograms are done overnight. Sleep Studies Technologists ar! e required to adapt to technical advances in the field and lea! rn new equipment and procedures as they are introduced.
REQUIRED MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. Graduate of AMA-approved school of Respiratory Care, electroencephalogram diagnostics or polysomnography CAAHP approved program preferred.
2. Respiratory Therapists/graduates required to have valid Maine license.
3. Both Respiratory and CAAHP graduate students actively pursuing credentials may be considered.
4. Registered polysomnographic technologist (RPSGT) credential within 12 months of eligibility is required. RPSGT credential preferred.
5. Completion of college level basic principles of polysomnography course preferred.
6. BLS certification required.
7. Two years of sleep study experience preferred.
8. Must prove evidence of ability to conduct a wide range of sleep studies with direct supervision.
9. Demonstration of effective written and spoken communication skills. Compute! r literate.
