: The sonographer is responsible for coordinating the patient flow to obtain requested imaging studies in a fast paced environment. This is achieved through order verification, Qualit! y Assurance of the imaging equipment, proper patient identification and obtaining appropriate imaging following approved policies and protocols. This is to include proper patient preparation and education which may begin prior to the patient arrival. The sonographer may be involved in part of a procedural team.
Duties to include, but not limited to:
Ø
Performs age-specific echocardiographic examinations for all age groups which include infancy, pediatrics, adults and geriatrics
Ø
obtain diagnostic recordings of cardiac ultrasonography images and Doppler hemodynamic data
Ø
Must maintain 30 CME's per triennium
Education/Experience requirements
:
Associates degree in Cardiac Ultrasound preferred.
Must be registry eligible through appropriate schooling and clinical hours.
Must apply for registry upon completion of prerequisites as outlined by ARDMS
Registere! d Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) preferred
Pri! or
experience in the clinical setting, as a Cardiac Sonographer preferred
BLS required
Other Skills required
:
Demonstrated knowledge
of cardiac anatomy, physiology.
Basic EKG interpretation skills and arrhythmia detection.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to work effectively with technical and medical staff.
Flexibility
Physical Requirements:
Must possess the degree of total body strength and flexibility necessary to move equipment and assist and transport patients. Must be able to assist patients with limited mobility or those requiring total care.
Must be able to reach items on the floor, and to reach objects overhead to a height of 5 feet above ground level and reach across a stretcher to a distance of 25 inches.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 45 lbs to a height of 3 feet above ground level.
Must be able to push motorized and no! n-motorized equipment weighing up to 465 lbs throughout the hospital as necessary.
Must be able to stand 85% of the time, averaging 3 miles of walking per 8-hour shift.
Manual dexterity is required to manipulate large/small objects, use computer keyboard and to operate equipment.
Visual acuity, color vision is required to observe the patient and discern information from electronic monitors, patient charts, ID bands and other printed documents.
Working Environment
:
Indoor work 100% of the time, in low-light conditions.
Exposure to noise at varying levels, varying temperatures, and strong odors at times.
Exposure to potentially hazardous materials, blood and high risk body fluids and patients with communicable diseases.
