• Summary of Position Description

The Operating Room Surgical Technologist Level II meets all of the criteria for Surgical Technologist Level I. The Level II Surgical Technologist works with considerable independence and self direction in order to ensure all the necessary elements are in place for each surgical procedure. The ability to contribute to the professional growth of other members of the surgical team is a requirement at this level. National certification must be continually maintained through the Asociation of Surgical Technologists.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

• Ability to concentrate on detail and adjust quickly to changes of assignment.
• Ability to stand continually for several hours, and to move, lift, position, transport patients, stretchers, equipment, etc.
• Interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with others.
• Knowledge ! of aseptic technique and operating room standards and procedur! es, acquired through completion of course in an approved school of Surgical Technology.
• Demonstrates responsibility for identification of techs own learning needs and communciates these needs to the appropriate resource staff.
• Certification required within three months of employment or at the discretion of the Department Director.
• One year of surgical technology work experience is required at this level.
• Possesses knolwedge of contents of muliple speciality instrument trays for assigned service.
• Possesses knowledge of multiple types of equipment pertinent to Surgical Technologist role including but not limited to: cell saver, laser, ultradrive, cusa, steris, autoclaves, cautery, laparoscopic video system, endoscopic tower.
• Demonstrates the required knowledge and technical skills to perform core Operating Room procedures and speciality procedures in assigned services. Surgical procedures include but are not limited to: sc! heduled general, cariac, neuro, pediatric, multiple trama, GYN, GU, vascular, orthopedics, as well as common emergencies.
